Before Ken Melvin found Special Olympics, he was on a path that led to nowhere. Through Special Olympics, he emerged as a leader and mentor for people with and without intellectual disabilities. With his new found confidence, he set out to achieve a lifelong dream – serving in the military. After taking the test to get into the National Guard seven times, he finally passed and was deployed to Afghanistan in 2009.
