Pizzability
Located in Denver, Colorado lies a restaurant where customers pay for delicious slices of pizza but life lessons about awareness and inclusion come free of charge. Pizzability is a restaurant where everyone is welcome and individuals of all abilities can sit back and enjoy a meal. A former Special Education teacher, Tiffany Fixter, opened Pizzability to break down stereotypes to show that individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities CAN work. With 25 employees having an intellectual or developmental disability, 8 of those employees being Special Olympics athletes, Pizzability shows that everyone has a special skill set. Even though Pizzability only opened its doors in December, its impact has already been felt on the taste buds and it the hearts of people all over the neighborhood.

Law Enforcement Torch Run
For nearly 40 years, members of law enforcement around the world have been the biggest supporters of Special Olympics as members of the Law Enforcement Torch Run. What started as a small local fundraiser in Wichita, Kansas has grown to be the largest public awareness vehicle and grassroots fundraiser for Special Olympics, providing opportunities for athletes to empower and transform themselves, their communities and the world.

Spencer Roberson is an accomplished Special Olympics athlete who made his victorious international debut at the Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019. When he’s not competing, Spencer shares his love of equestrian with riders at Stable Strides Farm, an organization that provides a positive place for people with disabilities—as well as retired and active duty military veterans—to become more confident, independent, and competitive equestrians. Follow Spencer as he supports military veterans on their healing journey!

For individuals with severe or profound disabilities, the Motor Activity Training Program (MATP) uses sports adapted to individual strengths to build confidence and personal connections. At George Washington High School in Denver, MATP is changing lives for athletes like Jackie Paisano, but also for student-mentors like Phillip Dilosa, who work together and open up a world of possibilities.

Women of Saudi Arabia
In a movement that has long been fueled by women’s leadership, the female athletes of Special Olympics Saudi Arabia are just the latest trailblazers who are breaking barriers for inclusion. In 2019, 24 women with and without intellectual disabilities became the first female athletes from Saudi Arabia to compete at the Special Olympics World Games. Not only did they take home the gold at their first-ever World Games, these women showed the world that progress is possible when we choose to include!
